Initially, Just Ears will be running clinics on Wednesdays and Thursdays from our centre.

Why Choose Microsuction Ear Wax Removal?

Ear wax is a natural part of the body’s defence system, helping to protect the ears against dust, bacteria and foreign particles. However, when wax builds up it can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as hearing loss, earache, tinnitus, dizziness and itching. Traditional methods like ear syringing rely on water irrigation, which isn’t suitable for everyone and is rarely offered within NHS primary care now.

Microsuction has become the gold standard for ear wax removal. This modern technique uses a gentle medical suction device while the clinician works under a microscope or clinical loupes, allowing precise and controlled removal. It is:

  • Safe – no water irrigation, reducing the risk of infection

  • Fast and comfortable – typically completed in a matter of minutes

  • Effective – suitable for most patients, including those with perforated eardrums

  • Clinically recommended – often preferred by ENT specialists

Patients often notice an immediate improvement in hearing and comfort after treatment.

Experienced ENT Professionals

Clinics at Guildford Chiropractic Centre will be led by James Wright and Amy Sansom, both highly experienced ENT nurses with over 15 years’ combined experience in microsuction and specialist ear care. Their background in hospital ENT departments and clinical practice means you can expect expert assessment, careful treatment, and clear advice about ongoing ear health.

Audiology Services Also Available

In addition to ear wax removal, Just Ears also offers a range of audiology services – including free hearing tests delivered by Senior Audiologist, Mark Begley. There is no obligation to purchase hearing aids, though Mark is able to advise on hearing health, hearing aid options, and practical support if required.

Whether you are experiencing gradual hearing changes, sudden hearing loss, or simply want to understand your hearing profile, a hearing test can provide reassuring and useful information.

Frequently Asked Questions – Ear Wax Removal at Guildford Chiropractic Centre

What is microsuction?

Microsuction is a modern method of ear wax removal that uses a gentle medical suction device under magnified vision. It allows the clinician to remove wax safely, precisely, and without the use of water irrigation.

Is microsuction safe?

Yes. Microsuction is widely considered the safest method for ear wax removal and is recommended by ENT specialists. Because no water is flushed into the ear, the risk of infection or discomfort is reduced. It is suitable for most people, including those with a perforated eardrum or a history of ear surgery.

Does microsuction hurt?

Most patients find microsuction comfortable and quick. You may feel a slight tickling or suction sensation, but it should not be painful. If your ear canal is very sensitive or inflamed, the nurse will adapt the procedure to ensure you remain comfortable.

How long does the appointment take?

Appointments are usually 15–20 minutes, depending on how much wax is present and whether one or both ears need treatment.

Will I notice a difference straight away?

Many people experience an immediate improvement in hearing and overall comfort once the wax has been removed. If the ear canal has been irritated before treatment, improvements may be gradual over a day or two.

Do I need to use ear drops beforehand?

Just Ears may recommend using olive oil or softening drops for a few days before your appointment, especially if you have very compacted wax. When you book, they will advise you based on your symptoms.

Is microsuction suitable for children?

Yes, microsuction can be suitable for children, but it depends on age and whether they are comfortable keeping still during the procedure. Please speak to Just Ears for guidance before booking for a child.

Can I have microsuction if I’ve had ear surgery?

In most cases, yes. Microsuction is often the preferred method for people with a history of ear surgery or perforated eardrums. The clinician will review your medical history before treatment to ensure it is appropriate.

How often should I have ear wax removed?

Everyone produces ear wax at different rates. Some people may need treatment once a year, while others may benefit from more regular checks. The clinician can advise you on how to manage your ear health long-term.

Is microsuction available on the NHS?

Microsuction is no longer routinely provided in many GP surgeries, and access varies by region. Just Ears offers fast access to specialist treatment without the waiting times often associated with NHS services.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. If you feel more comfortable bringing a family member or support person, they are welcome to attend with you.

How do I book an appointment?
