Headache & Migraine Treatment in Guildford
Headaches and migraines can be painful, disruptive and difficult to manage, particularly when they keep coming back. At Guildford Chiropractic Centre, we assess your symptoms to understand what may be contributing to your headache and whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.
Our chiropractors commonly help people with headaches associated with neck and musculoskeletal problems, including tension-type and cervicogenic headaches. Where your symptoms suggest another cause, we'll advise you on the most appropriate next step.

What type of headache are you experiencing?
Not all headaches are the same, and the right approach depends on the type and pattern of your symptoms.
We commonly see people with:
-
Tension-type headaches – often associated with pressure or aching around the head, together with neck or shoulder tension.
-
Cervicogenic headaches – headaches arising from structures in the neck, often affecting one side and influenced by neck movement or position.
-
Headaches associated with jaw tension – sometimes linked with clenching, grinding or TMJ problems.
-
Migraine – a neurological condition that can cause severe headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound, sometimes with an aura.
A thorough assessment helps us understand your symptoms and decide whether chiropractic care is appropriate, or whether another healthcare professional would be more suitable.
Cervicogenic headaches
Cervicogenic headaches are headaches that originate from structures in the neck. They can cause pain that starts around the upper neck or base of the skull and travels towards the forehead, temple or behind the eye.
They may be associated with restricted neck movement, prolonged postures or particular neck movements.
Following an assessment, treatment may include hands-on techniques, exercises and advice to help improve neck movement and manage contributing factors.
If your headaches seem to be linked to your neck, book an assessment with our Guildford team.
What about migraine?
Migraine is a neurological condition rather than simply a musculoskeletal headache. Symptoms can include severe or throbbing head pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound, with some people also experiencing an aura.
If you experience migraine, our chiropractors can assess whether musculoskeletal factors such as neck pain or tension may also be contributing to your symptoms. Chiropractic care should not be considered a replacement for appropriate medical diagnosis or migraine management.
If you're experiencing new, changing or unusually severe headaches, we recommend seeking medical assessment.
Why choose Guildford Chiropractic Centre?
Headaches can have many different causes, so we don't assume that chiropractic treatment is appropriate for everyone.
Our chiropractors take the time to assess your symptoms, discuss your history and consider the wider picture before recommending treatment. Where your symptoms suggest that another healthcare professional would be more appropriate, we'll tell you.
Our aim is simple: to understand your symptoms, provide appropriate care and help you make an informed decision about what to do next.
When should I seek medical advice?
Seek urgent medical attention for a sudden, extremely severe headache, a headache following significant head injury, or a headache accompanied by symptoms such as weakness, confusion, loss of consciousness or significant visual or speech changes.
